Something to really think about
Power relationships are even more important to balance when they involve children and the issue of obedience to adults. Is a child content because they are obedient or are they obedient because they are content? What is better – a child who is obedient out of fear of chastisement through parental control or a child who is happy to comply with the wishes of his parents through the routine of loving, nurturing, stimulating encouragement and is therefore calm and content? A quiet child is not always a happy child and a happy child is not always quiet, but a child who is happy and contented is more likely to be healthier than a child who is just quiet and obedient.
